built 700r4

Im currently running a setup with my camaro that makes 400 hp, Im using a stock rebuild 700r4 with about 3000 miles on it right now. Im wondering what I can do to the 700r4 to make it handle the power its making now, and an occasional shot of nitrous. I just bought a vigilante 9 inch converter for it. Looking for suggestions for manual valvebodys, and that sort also, cause the trans shifts waaaay too weak, especially when I shift it myself.

The 700r4 can handle that easily. Check out probuilt's website. Thats the tranny to get right there.

thanks, Id get a th350, cause I could get a real strong one for dirt cheap but, I really really want my overdrive. Mostly cause of my 4.10 gears. Plus I still drive the car alot. Ill have to take a look at those trans and see what I can work with at probuilts

Use the Modified Trans-Go Performance Shift kit, both boost valves, and Corvette servo. This will give you the best chance on your transmission to hold up to the current horsepower. Let me know?

re

if your gonna make over 400 horse power i suggest a kevlar band , harded input shaft ,heavy duty sunshield and step up the pump to a thirteen vane setup like the new 4l60e's and a heavy pump slide spring, from sonnex. also add more clutches in in your 3/4 clutch pack some can get as many as nine in them but i only could get eight in mine my steels were to thick..

Do not use a "kevlar" band, use the Borg Warner Hi-Energy 2-4 band. They last longer and give a better quality shift. A stock input shaft works just fine as long as you run a 9.5" or 10" torque converter. 13 vane pumps do nothing, except take away oil volume & they cost more. Use the Trans-Go steel chrome rings & pump slide spring. They offer 2 different type of slide springs, one for above 5,500 rpm WOT shift points, and the other for below 5,500 rpm WOT shift points. Depending on what type of driving you do, you can run 7, 8, or 9 Borg Warner Hi-Energy clutches in the 3-4 pack. There are a lot more modifications that can be done to make this transmission last. If you need more reasons as to not using some of the above mentioned items, there are more.

Im going to go with the transgo shift package and the corvette servo, I'll take your word on the stock input shaft, especially since my converter is a 9 inch. Would a manual valvebody or a reverse manual full patern valvebody junk this trans quicker, because when I race the car I prefer to shift it myself since the trans shifts out way too quick.

Umm...Yeah...what Pro-built said

Any wonder why I bought one from him instead of rebuilding my own?
