I had a mishap the other day, brakes went out and was goin oly 15 mph , didnt have a choice so i hit reverse. Now I have no reverse and wont shift out of 2nd. fuid is fine,tv cable etc. Any idea what part of the trans is screwed up?? torque converter?? its a 700r4 out of a 91 firebird. someone please help

 

Are you sure it won't shift out of second? I would be inclined to think that first gear is winding out real far, then its skipping right into t hird. That would indicate that the reaction sun shell probably broke. Its common, especially under circumstances such as yours. There are beefier ones on the market.

when the splined hub on the reaction sun shell breaks, you lose reverse, 2nd, and 4th
