torque converter toasted?
Here is what it does: With it completely warmed up, accelerating from a stop with as light of throttle as possible(just enough to keep accelerating), the shift will all but kill the engine. Around the same time this started, I get a vibration at around 70mph and higher that comes and goes at a constant rate--only when the converter is locked(manual switch). It's not a bad vibration yet, but my guess is that it won't get better(feels like when my dad's converter went bad in his surburban years ago). Can a bad TC cause the engine to nearly die when accelerating slowing and shifting? It's not something I've ever seen before. Adjusting everything on the engine won't change it(timing, idle mix, etc). The fluid is nice and clean and the tranny shifts great with moderate throttle and WOT. Adjusting the TV cable didn't change anything. It still kills the engine for like a second, then it comes back.

sounds like the lock up clutches are going out in the converter. or the solenoid isn't unlocking. i just replaced my converter because the converter lock up clutch went out. feel like a shuddering when it tries to unlock.

It 'seems' to be unlocking and locking down the highway correctly(manual switch). Hopefully it's just the converter. Anybody know the best place to get an L35 converter? Anybody else seen the TC try to kill the engine when shifting?

if this is a stock converter, they only stall to about 900-1100 rpm. the covnerter being locked in like not pushing the clutch in on a manual. s othe shift is bringing the rpms down low. and with the converter locked in putting a lot of load on the engine.
