700R4 vs T400

has anyone changed over to the T400 from there 700R4 ? what happen to the ET's? better worst..60ft,1/8 mph?.

My motor would be lucky to make 300HP + 175-225 N2O. I leave on the bottle so with around 500HP total would i pick up or slow down? I can leave pretty hard with700R4(1.56 60ft best) how would that change with a T400(with lock up) with a 3800stall. Everything else is about the same.

What takes more power to drive 700R4 or T400?

Even though the T400 has a smaller 1st gear, would the better gear spacing help overall?

let me know

1st gear on a TH400 is a little taller than that on a 700R4, and is only a 3 speed, as oppsed to 4, but you probably know that.

I doubt the ET would change much, as the gearing is basically the same.

The TH400 is a bulletproof tranny if you get it 'built'. They use them in 2000hp/2500ft-lb Monster trucks, so it should be fine behind your 300hp engine.

The two will basically run the same - the 400 has better gear spacing but soaks up more power; the 700 uses up less power but has worse gear spacing.

The 400 eats up more power than either a 700 or 350.

Keep in mind that a 350/700 properly built will handle up to 700hp reliably, maybe more. If you have more power than that, a 400 or 4L80E (400 with OD) is your best bet. If your car isn't in the 9's, you don't really need to worry about that.

Just get the 700 built. Unless you're running some really fast times a TH400 isn't really needed.

Also a TH400 isn't lockup unless you have it converted(there is a kit out there, freakin expensive but you can do it).

For the cost of a well built TH400 and all the parts needed for the swap you can get the 700 rebuilt to handle some nice power and get a solid torque converter, like an ACT or Vigilante with an anti-ballooning plate(for the juice) and be just fine

tranny

I have the kit to change a T400 to lock up and the 3800 converter(5 disc lock up) for it. I am so sick of this YANK. I am having another converter that i have had awhile back restalled(I hope around 3200). It is a 10" continental(with N2O ballon plate) non lock up. I might try that for a little while and just change my tranny over(non lock up) and see what happens(ET wise).

I know the 700 can take what little i have now. I have a local race coming up and would like the best shot of kicking a few asses(1/8 mile). The 400 will have the lock up kit(it is getting put together right now in the tranny shop) and a transbrake. I am getting ready to swap my 9" into it..waiting on axle flange studs.

If I have time I will do the swap(T400)..and a Spohn Torque Arm(they are behind right now). If not I will try and just get the converter change out in the 700 so i can get some mph back at the end of the 1/8.

Before to long..I will Have a 18*400ci+ motor complete.

Re: 700R4 vs T400

Yes I would stick with the 700R4. loving our change over we did last year. We use that External electronic solid lockup controller No vacuum or pressure switch to mess with. and turn only 1800 RPM at 73 MPH, best $40.00 I spent
