Heres the deal, months ago on ebay I bought what was supposed to be an 89 WC T5 from an 89 Trans Am, well after getting it and researching the #'s I figure out its from an 85 Camaro with a V8. After asking how it would do vs a stronger 89 motor I had the confidence to install it.

My main problem with the install is that I lost the speedometer, after countless searches I found that the tranny I put in likely was in a car with a mechanical speedo, and mine being an 89 with a WC had an electronic one. I swapped out the VSS on the trans with my old VSS and it still wont work.

Ive read that the 85 and 89 had different drive gears in the tailshaft that drive the VSS so is it possible that the VSS will not mesh with the drive gear? the VSS that came with the tranny is exactly the same as the original in my GTA except for the speedo gear color.

Is there an easier way to make this work except tearing the trans back out again and tearing it apart to slide my original gear back on?

 

There is a way to fix this!

Maybe I skimmed over it while searching or maybe it wasnt specific enough or maybe it was to convert an electronic to a mechanical. Ill look again.
