Need clutch/flywheel, any recommendations?

My throwout bearing seized (see my sig) and ate the clutch as well... so now I need a new clutch! I had that thing done in September....

anyway, I was looking ar Hayes, but someone told me to go with Centerforce, as it has a softer pedal. I have no experience with anything pther than OEM, so gimme some ideas!

My flywheel is also turned to the max, so I need another. Once again, I ahve no experience... aluminum, steel, etc. Suggestions?

I have had about every brand of clutch there is at one time or another, in one car or another; Hays, McLeod, Centerforce, Borg-Warner, Ram, all come to the top of my mind. Every single one of them was a high-quality product, and worked perfectly; I have no complaints whatsoever with any of them. Of course I've ony been driving stick shift cars for a few decades so far, so there might be a thing or 2 I haven't run across yet. But IMHO you just about can't go wrong as long as you stick with a good brand name, not just the cheeeeepest thing you can find that calls itself a clutch.

I have a Centerforce Dual-Friction in my car right now. This is the 2nd one I've had. Both of them have worked extremely well; very very smooth chatter-free operation in rush-hour bumper-to-bumper traffice, yet it hooks up like a piece of metal whan I stand on it.

Same goes for the flywheel. Any of the aftermarket ones will work fine. I would not recommend an aluminum one for a number of reasons; one of the lighter steel ones is a better choice for a street car.

If it will fit the rear main seal, the 305HO wheel is a good choice. (83-84)

RB hit it.

I am running a Hayes billet steel flywheel and centerforce DF clutch. Works fantastic.

Ok, well I have a 1988 block... I didn't think I could use any flywheel from 86-back... or am I wrong?

Thanks for the info... Centerforce isn't too expensive, and I think that's the way I will go.

i really like my centerforce, i am sure you will too, i think next time i will try out a spec clutch though.

I have a hayes clutch and although I haven't had a chance to drive it yet the pressure plate was a bitach to put on. Had to use a ford tool to get the socket onto a couple of bolts that hold it on. The case/houseing thingy wasn't dimpled enough to accept a 1/2 drive socket.

I'm running a Centerforce D/F Clutch (#DF161056) also with the Hays (#10-530) Billet Steel Flywheel in my 92 (Tremec TKO trans). I've been very happy with this clutch setup. Best one I've tried in the thirdgen.

Well, I got a great deal on a stock flywheel, $60 brand new. I was being quoted $300-$400 for it, as I could only find it at a dealer! All the parts yards and stores said they never have those... oh well.

Will a Centerforce bolt up to the stock clutch?

Also, I heard that you should get the clutch and the flywheel balanced together... is this true?

One last thing (lol), while I'm in there, I figured I'd replace the rear main seal. This just unbolts and comes out/off right? Any precautions I should know of?

Thanks again, don't know what I'd do without this board!

The C/F clutch will bolt up to the stock flywheel.

Rear Main seal (on one piece rms engines) just pops right out with a small screwdriver. Wipe out the groove and pop the new one in.
