Gear Ratio

Is there any way of determining what gears are in the rear end? I bought an 82 Camaro recently with quite a few modifications. The previous owner was a body man, and didn't keep track of what was done to the car, he traded body work for drivetrain work. He told me the car has a Trans & Rear End out of a 90 IROC. He told me that he knows the car had the rear end beefed up, but wan't sure what gears were put in. This is something that would be very helpful to find out since my car readlines at approx 100MPH, using a 700R4 Trans & a mildly built 350 from a 70 Chevelle.

pull the cover and count teeth and do the math, or look on the end of the ring gear for the ratio to be stamped in it, something like 13:43 and do the math.

A quick check method: Jack up the rear and set the car on jackstands. Put a chalk mark on the R/R tire sidewall and a mark on the cement floor. Put a chalk mark on the driveshaft. Rotate the tire (1) compleat revalution and count how maney times the driveshaft turns. Example: Tire turnes once and the driveshaft turns 3.5 times Hence 3.50 to 1 gears.
