Goop around rear u-joint
I'm trying to track down a grinding which I notice when coming to a stop. Did the brakes, front bearings, and now I'm looking at everything. There's a black goop right above and around the u-joint, and some fluid on the rear diff too. The goop is much darker and thicker than diff fluid, and doesn't smell anything like it. I can't feel any play in the driveshaft or u-joint. Could this goop have come out of the u-joint?

Looks like chassis lube. Some, if not all U-joints have grease inserts/fittings on them.
Mine did on my '76 4x4.
