manual trans-same for V6 as V8?
manual trans-same for V6 as V8?
Currently running a 92 Bird with 3.1L and auto trans. Of course I want to have a V8 of some sort in there, but thats a bit of ways off in the distance. I really want a 5 speed in there now tho, and I'm curious if the gearboxes between the V6 cars and V8 cars are the same? I know the bellhousing patterns are different between the two engines, does the F-body use a removeable bellhousing? In other words, can I swap to the manual trans now, and switch bellhousings keeping the same manual box later when I switch to a V8?

you could do a search. this has been covered so many times. in the picture the v6 is on the left and v8 on the right, the v8 has a fine spline vs the v6. the only way to "make it fit" would be to find a v6 clutch disc and run the v8 pressure plate or find a clutch disc that is the same size as the v8 one and use that with it.
the bellhousing is removable and needs to be removed when you install it. so yes the v8 bellhousing will bolt to the v6 trans

been trying to search for it, but the search engine keeps rejecting the searches that include V6 and V8 terms due to minimum word length. I couldn't figure out how to word it so the search engine would accept it.
