Stall Recommendation

I was wondering if you guys could recommend a stall speed for my converter. I'm getting a Turbo 350 trans for next year, and I might even splurge and get the trans brake with it. I'll probably get a Coan converter. I have a weak 700 in it right now with a 2600 stall. Definitely not enough. I'm only pulling 2.1 second 60' times, and that is with no spin on my slicks. Would 3000 be enough, or should I go higher? Thanks in advance.

that doesnt sound right 2.1 on slicks!!! i pulled 1.89 on radials with the stock stall. now with the vigilante and dr's im wanting some 1.7's. as far as stall speed do you want this to be a daily driver, or what are your plans?

With the TH350 a Continental 10" 3,000rpm stall is about as high as you would want on the street. We did a lot of these in the past with good success.

I forgot to mention, the intake I had on at the time of the run was the Victor Jr., so that hurt my hole shot with the low stall. I ran a disappointing 13.1 at 104 with absolutely no tuning, and a tranny that slipped for a good second between 2nd and 3rd gear...that was the real killer. I usually drive the car a lot only 3 months in the year. I have heard awesome results of using Coan high stall converters on the street with no problems at all. Any other suggestions would be great. Thanks again.

That 60ft isn't off at all. People often forget that when you go to a bigger cam that you LOSE a lot of lowend torque so your 60ft will always suck unless you can launch the car in its powerband. Example? I pulled 1.8x 60ft times on street tires before my head/cam swap. After my head/cam swap I could only manage a 2.0 on drag radials. I swapped in a Vigilante 2800 and immediately pulled a 1.70 60ft because the car launched in it's powerband.

I totally disagree with Pro Built. I am running a 3600 stall vigilante on the street and it's awesome. I have no problems whatsoever with running this stall on the street. Why? Because the Prrecision Industries Vigilante converters are very very efficient. Thus, at part throttle they operate very similar to converters that have rated stall speeds much smaller .... but STILL operate according to their rated stall speeds at WOT. If your main concern is drag strip performance than a 3000 stall converter just isn't enough -- ESPECIALLY when taking into account your cam/intake combination. Go for at least a 3600 stall .... as long as you get a good high quality converter (this means NOT a B&M or TCI - it mean a converter from a company that specializes in converters). If you can't afford a good high quality converter then you may want to go with a smaller 3000 stall.
