rear pinion bearing removal?

I bought a posi rear end for my car and decided before I'd put it in that I would go through and replace all the bearings and seals. I was wondering though if the pinion bearing is a press in or if it should pop right out. I'm asking about the one behind the yoke that looks like a large wheel bearing. Thanks.

one will fall out of the houseing the one on the pinion is a press fit. you'd need to remove it any way to set up your new gear set

Like ede said, one fits sort of loose on the pinion right behind the yoke, and the other presses onto the other end of the pinion right next to the gear teeth. Both of them have their outer races pressed into the housing. If you replace the roller part of a bearing, you need to change the part that's in the housing too.

Just like you would a wheel bearing.

if you have any ques about doing a rear i sugguest highly sending it to a respectable shop. after you pull the pinion apart it hasta be re set .
if its set up improperly the gear can get wasted FAST. from what iv been told it only takes up to 50 miles on a wrong setup rear and the gear is gone. scratch re setting it up right ,its toast. the wear pattern is very critical.
i do alot my own things to my car but going rears and trannys i leave to the shops.
all of the bearings in a rear are pressed on and off.
