I'm not sure where to post this...
I have a lead on an SLP Dana 44 rear for 82-92 Firebird. The guy wants $850 or best offer.
First, will it fit my Iroc? I didn't think there was any difference, but it was only posted as Firebird
Second... I don't even know what a Dana 44 is
... will it turn my daily driver into a strip car only? I don't want that! But I do race it so...
All I know is 3:08 posi sucks!
Thanks guys... again for saving me from ignorance

The Dana 44 is a bad *** rear. That is the same rear that they used in the ZR1 Vettes (only IRS of course). Yes it will fit your IROC, but you may need to shorten/lengthen your driveshaft. It may only be listed for Firebirds because until the 4th Gen SS Z28's, I think that SLP did only Firebirds for GM (i.e. Firehawk), but I think that you could option a 1LE car with that rear from the factory, but I may be wrong on that too. Bottom line, it will fit, it's way strong, but it's hard to find others out there if you blow it up (I know a guy with a built ZR1 and he detonated his at the dragstrip). I don't know what they're actually worth, but I saw one on eBay go for $1100 about 9 months ago. Hope this helps.
It does help, thanks! I should be able to afford it with 2 weeks pay... but I wanted to make sure the car would still be streetable.
What's the ratio in one of those? 4:11? Or is that something totally different
Thanks again!

For awhile SLP was selling these rears seperately. You could order them with different gear ratios, so it just depends on what this guy has/where it came from. The rear was roughly $2K new.
Sounds like a good deal, as long as its in good shape.

The only one I saw was a 3.73 posi. Not that that is the only way they came, but it is a pretty popular ratio. The nice thing about those rears is you can find gears pretty reasonable almost anywhere, unlike the 9-bolt.

It will come with axle flanges for disc brakes so 10 bolt disc brakes will bolt right on. If you have drums you'll have to either upgrade or do some fabrication to put them on.
Uh oh... sounds like it's out of my league!
