My Transmission is in trouble....please help

Ok..tonight I was following my girlfriend back to her dorm room....she took off fast...so I did too...I got going up to about 20 and the tranny went out.....rolled to a stop. I let it set....and now...all I have is reverse. I had to drive the car home in reverse down the highway....I'm glad is was about 12:30 at night. Anyhow..I have NO idea what happened....I bought the car about a year ago...and the dude said it had a $1500.00 tranny in it. It's always hit very hard and very very strong. But...tonight....it went out. Anyone have ANY ideas??? I just know I'm in big trouble..any help would be greatly appreciated. One thing I do hear is when I put it into drive.....it sounds like something is spinning around and around fast....and I've never heard it before it went out. Thanks

If there is no movement at all in any forward gear position, then the forward clutches are most likely gone. Do you have any movement in any forward position?

What transmission do you have? I have to agree with PBA, your forward clutches are probably cooked.

there is NO movement in any gear at all. It sounds like something is just spinning and whining. You think I should just go with a Pro Built Transmission? Or just have those parts replaced?? I'm not sure what kind of transmission it has in it now....the previous own installed a $1500 tranny though...and he didn't tell me what is was.....

I know it's a 700R4....but the prior owner installed an after market tranny in it....and I'm not sure what brand he went with. If it is the clutches that went out....would it be cheaper to have those replaced or would it just be a good idea too get a whole new tranny? I want a tranny with equal to or more power then the one I had/have. And if it's better to just go ahead and get a new Pro Built Transmission..would it be better to get the Street/Strip or the Heavy Duty? I'm pushing probably 310 h.p. and I don't want to go through any other transmissions... Any thoughts or ideas would be great. (I'm having a shop do all of the work)
