lower gears in my 2 series 9 bolt

I have a 9 bolt with a 2.77 gear ratio. Now, I know that that has a 2 series carrier and if i want to go with 3.42 or 3.70, it would need to be a 3 series carrier. Can I convert my 9 bolt to a 3 series carrier and if so, what does that consist of. If not, what can I do if I want to stay with the 9 bolt but with a lower gear ratio?

Buy a 3-series carrier, and a gear set. The carrier is a piece that bolts inside the rear end, that the ring gear is attached to.

Parts for that rear are not cheap.

You will need a series 3 style carrier. Then you can go with a ratio up to 4.10.

You don't need a 3 series carrier. There are several companies that make adapters that will do the job perfectly for a series 2 carrier, for much cheaper than a new carrier would cost. Unless your series 2 carrier is toast, keep it and buy an adapter along with your gear set instead.

This is for a 9 bolt, not a 10 bolt. The design of the carrier on a 9 bolt does not allow for a conventional style spacer and proper ring gear alignment.
