is it good or bad to adjust the TV cable so that it upshifts earlyer than normal? lately when i gun it i cant seem to get my tranny to upshift at all, so i adjusted my TV cable by pushing the center peice in a tiny bit and now i get the power ive been wanting out of my car. i can make better use of high rpm's now in 1st 2nd and 3rd but is this hard on the transmission? is there another way i can make my transmission shift at higher rpms without messing with the TV cable or spending countless days taking my tranny apart? im guessing everything was set up to make use of the low end torque produced by the TPI, but since i now have better torque at higher rpm's with my carb, i want to make better use of it.

WOW thanks for the useless information. i know how to adjust it, but mine was meant for a TPI throttle body. ive read the same thing in my haynes manual, but i dont get a "Series" of clicks or any clicks when i adjust mine because there is probly too much slack due to the fact that ITS A CARB on top of my engine. i hate when people assume i havent checked the tech articles or other peoples threads.

about all i can tell you is that the further out the tv cable adjuster is, the quicker the shifts come, but the shifts themselves take longer.
The more "in" the adjuster is, the longer it takes to shift, but the actual shifts become quite fast and snappy.
My opinion is it's ok to adjust it so that the trans takes longer to shift but the shift is faster. My reasoning is that the less time the bands or clutches are engaging, the better that is from a wear standpoint. I guess it comes down to whether or not you can handle "hard" shifts.

it shifts alot " harder" when i push the center piece in (not the cable houseing, but the center peice where the cable comes out of on the other side) but when i step on it, instead of takeing a long *** time to climb up in speed it instantly goes up one gear and starts hauling *** like it should. i know damn well my car can go faster than this, i hate when my tranny is shifting at 1000 rpm in all the gears. i have no low-end torque anymore, i need to some how make my tranny shift in the higher rpms. isnt there a way i can make my tranny shift at like 3000rpms in all 3-4 gears without messing around with the TV cable?

If the TV Cable is "SET", then leave it alone. There really is no "adjustments" that should be made. A properly set cable will have the plunger arm bottomed out at WOT. Any other changes should be made via the governer.

If you have someone floor the gas pedal, push the adjuster as hard as you can toward the firewall. This should result in later shifts. If this doesn't work, you'll have to look elsewhere.
