Car: 1988 trans am
Engine: 5.7 gm H.O. crate engine
Transmission: 700r4
would this posi fit in my car?

if i got this, wouldi only need 28 spline axles?
could i use my existing ring and pinion gears i have now?

It will fit, yes. BUT!!! Your car is actually in the switch over year. a small amount of 88's did come with 28 spline axle, but most came with 26 spline. 89 and up were all 28 spline axles. I would check none the less before buying it. Just to be sure, either that or buy some 28 spline axles at the same time as the posi. When you tear down your rear, if you do find that you already have 28 spline axles, I am sure someone will buy the other 28 spline axles from you with no problems at all.

Well yes and no. You want to make sure you buy them from someone with a good reputation, so that you don't get ripped off and buy bent axles, but I am sure you can find some from someone either here or at a wreckers with a good reputation. Either that or spend a bit more and buy brand new "Strange" or "Moser" alxes for a bit more money.
