LSD and Posi...the same thing?

I was under the impression that an "open" rear leaves 1 burnout mark.

I thought "posi" was Gm's name for LSD...

Now someone is telling me that LSD is different then posi.

Anyone care to explain?

Posi is short for posi-traction, which was originally a Chevrolet trademark name developed years ago for LSD's in their vehicles. Chrysler called their LSD's "Suregrip", and the other auto manufacturers had cutesy names for their versions also. Somehow through the years, the word "posi" has been universally adopted and is used quite often when referring to any vehicle with an LSD equipped rear end.
