Converters....
Converters....
My computer and ISP got together and ate my last thread.
Anyway, I went to the track recently and got horrible results.
(2.2 60' and 15.9@85) My car has nothing off the line. When I slam on the gas, its wont even chirp the tires. Besides needing tuning, I think I have the wrong converter in my car. I can only powerbrake to 1500 without starting a burnout.
Anyway....When I installed the 350, my friend gave me a "Performance" stall converter. I kinda wonder why it had no paint and how he conviently had the correct converter I needed. I personally now think he gave me a stock 305 converter out of his car and passed it off as a performance unit...little lieing ****...
I was told by a few people a 4.3 V6 S10 converter is about 500-750rpm higher stall than a stock one and it would work well with my setup.
Would the 305 converter with its incredibly low stall speed be causing alot of problems? And would the S10 conerter help?
BTW, I am also installing a TPI within the next few weeks. If that makes any difference.

The converter is most likely really old, been over heated too many times or ballooned.
Spend the dough and get the best converter you can afford. Run a 16,000 GVW B&M super cooler and trans temp gauge.
I have a 2500 stall 10" non-lockup converter. No problems so far.

I forget what my stock converter stalled at but it sure sounds like you got a stock unit
Mine split open one day starting a year of being in transmission hell. 1 year to the day, the replacement trans (which was a TH400) took a dump for the last time. Stuck a different TH400 in and a new converter and it's been working flawless so far.
