168 Tooth Starter/Flexplate
Will these fit in my thirdgen? I know they will fit to the block but I don't know if the starter is bigger or not.
The Th350 I just got has a stall converter for the 168tooth flexplate. Anyone know what starter to get? IE What make/model/etc do I tell the autoparts person?

That's not possible.... or, you're going backwards. The only kind of converter that doesn't have the bolt pattern that's on the 153-tooth flex plate is a Turbo 400 one.
The starter is considerably bigger, and mounts that much farther away from the crank center besides. It may cause major exhaust interference problems.
Check carefully; I can't imagine any converter other than a stock 400 one only having the 400 bolt pattern. I think you'll find that you don't have a problem.

The converter is a GM-3H conveter.
The flex plate I tested this on was a 153 toother that came with the 350 block I bought a year ago. I didn't know that 153 tooth ones could be different. I guess I'll go yank out the 700 tomorrow and hold the TC up to the flexplate and see if she'll bolt up!
I just quadruple checked, the TC will not bolt the the 153tooth flexplate I have in the garage. The TC itself has about the same diameter as the flexplate.

I'd rather not buy a new starter but some research into my S-10 V8 Conversion book shows a starter used 94-2000 full size trucks with 350 and 454 V8 engines. Weighs 8lbs and is rated at 1.7 KW. For 168tooth flexplate.
Says it will clear the S10 but the stock auto thirdgen wont. Picture shows it being smaller also. Perhapse this might work?
Stock Auto Thirdgen is 19lbs and rated at 1.5KW.
