ok don't ask about the first 3 times...
stupid mechanics and stuff...
but anyway, here's my current situation...
i got a brand new clutch put in this year when i pulled my car out....
drove it for the summer... i'll admit i drive my car pretty rough sometimes... i don't redline or anything like that... but i always like to chirp 1st to 2nd gear... i accelerate alot (floor it)... etc...
anyhow, about a month ago i noticed my car acting up... i couldn't chirp from 1st to 2nd anymore, no matter what happened, no matter how hard i tried, and i use to do it... all the time...
it's like... no matter how fast i shifted... there would be like this ... i can't explain... delay in the shifting... kinda boggled me...
anyhow, kept driving my car... thought nothing of it... then one day i start having troubles shifting into 3rd... it's like... it was smooth from 1st to 2nd, and then when i went up to put it into 3rd... i would feel some resistance at first, and then it would go in... really strange...
then a few days later... 3rd seemed ok... but then 1st to 2nd was giving me problems... if i was in 1st, accelerated up to like 2000 rpms and switched gears to 2nd, it was fine...
but if i was in 1st, and accelerated to 4000 rpms, and tried to switch to second, i encountered alot of resistance between neutral-2nd... like... it didn't go smoothly into 2nd, had to force it and actually stop for a seocnd while i was driving and ram it in there...
well.. then yesterday i'm driving to work... and what do i know... all my gears are slipping... i'm in 1st... i give it some gas, the rpms shoot right up (no power).... i'm in 2nd... i give it some gas, the rpms shoot right up.... does that in every single gear...
which obviously means my brand new clutch is gone right? on top of that i'm thinking that there is something wrong with my gears too right?
my car has had a tranny problem since i bought it...
the day i bought it the clutch went (it was original)... i got a new one put in, but something wasn't done properly because it drove like ****, so 2 weeks later it died... they put in another one free of charge... i picked it up, the throwout bearing was making a noise... so they had to pull everything again and fix it...
then i drove it for a couple of months, everything was fine, then the throwout bearing noise came back... i read an article here about greasing up some clutch fork so i showed it to my mechanic and he greased it up, and it was fine...
but now... end of the summer... and what i just explained happened...
someone tell me what my problem is?

Which did you put in: a pilot bushing, or a bearing?

I'm not a mechanic - I'll say that up front. But from my knowledge of manual transmissions and how they work, sounds like you may have some internal damage that began with the weird shifting you mentioned was happening in the begining. Only thing is, you didn't mention hearing strange noises from the trans - I think whe internal stuf busts, it tends to make a lot of racket. Perhaps there is a problem with the slave cylinder or hydraulic clutch components. When you say it revs up in each gear when you give it the gas that does sound like the clutch isn't fully engaging or it's shot, as you say. Maybe they put in a crappy one the last time and your driving habits have toasted it too.......;-) The other thing is if the clutch isn't fully engaging or disengaging shifting might be a problem - that would be better news than internal problems - no one wants that....

that and you shouldnt be pounding on the clutch right after its installed it needs a break in period to seat itself on the pressure plate and flywheel before it has its max holding powerOriginally posted by Petes 84Z28
