Symptoms of bad rear/posi??? Loud snapping when turning hard.

Hey fellas, I was driving the '91 yesterday when all of a sudden I was making a hard right hand turn (at low speed) and heard a violent popping/snapping, like metal breaking (sounded like it was coming from the left rear side of the car). I got the car straightned out and it was fine. I pulled into the nearest driveway and it did it again when I pulled in there too. I looked under the car but couldnt see anything, so I proceeded to get the car back home, it did it again backing out of the drive but was fine once the car was tracking in a straight line. It didnt do it again until I got it home, I tried to make it do it again by backing in and out of my drive way, where it only did it once, but it wasnt half as loud. Anyone have any clues as to what it could be??? It doesnt do it on every revolution, just now and then, and like I said, it's fine when it's going straight. Help me out here, I figure I might have to find a complete rearend, I hope not. Thanks fellas.

Joe.

It sounds like what mine was doing for quite awhile but intermittently. Mine finally broke racing at the track the other night and I'm pretty sure I blew the posi unit apart. I'd pull it apart and have a look so it doesn't leave you stranded.

*AWESOME car BTW... I've been thinking about those rims for street driving but have yet to see them on a '91-'92 TA. I like it. Looks like I'm getting polised WS6 rims and a RA I hood!!

Yeah, turns out it was the spider gears and posi. I guess the spiders gears blew apart and ruined the posi too. Looks like I'm out of a ride for a few (working on finding a used posi unit right now). Oh well. It happens!! What more do you expect from a ride that has more than 221,000 miles on it!!

GTA91: Thanks for the compliments!! I was a little skeptical about the wheels when I first put them on, but now I've come to absolutely love them!!! Look really good on the car on the road (when it's actually on the road, lol).
