Is this guy crazy or can you do it?
He claims he bought an 8.5" eaton, installed 8.5"ring and pinion, and 28 spline axels in an 87 camaro stock rear.......
can this be done?? Said it bolted right in and worked fine.

was he holding a crack pipe in his hand when he said it? it won't work, if it would don't you think it'd be the hot trick for the little 10 bolt rears and everyone would be doing it?

Won't even go through the hole and fit into the case.
This guy needs to listen more and talk less. "It's better to merely be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

how much different are the axle tubes? could the tubes from a 7.625 be welded to the center section of of an 8.5? i know there are all kinds of room for error...but would it...could it be made to work?

If you did swap axle tubes, what axles would you use? Ones for an 8.5 rear that fit the carrier but not the axle tube. Or for a 7.5/7.625 that fit the axle tube but not the carrier. How are you going to mount the torque arm on the 8.5 center? Like they said above, if it was easy and/or cheap to upgrade to an 8.5 everyone would be doing it.

i didn't say it could easily be done, i asked if it was a practical way to attempt....apparently it isn't
He has hence forth realized he made a mistake, he thought 28 splines meant 8.5"
