i've never had a rear end go out. what usualy happens? is it usualy something that goes out and you can't move or do you hear something and you can drive it to get home or something? thx.

 

When the gears break, sometimes the car will still move, sometimes it won't.
It will make a lot of noise, a clunking sound or loud tapping.
Here are 3 pinion gears that my brother has gone through (he is on his 11th set of gears now)


I tossed out the latest pinion gear that had 1/2 of the teeth wiped out, should have taken a pic of that one.

 

Those are factory gears I take it???

Man those gears are pretty!!! Mine when I pulled them was more like the 1/2 gone one you referred to!!!

Mine was from beating on a 13 year old stock rear end though. I snapped a couple teeth off, but being a newB had no clue what I was listening to. Drove it about 30 minutes back to where I live, and about 5 minutes away, POP... CRACK!!! Snapped about half of the teeth off, and right as I came to a stop, the rear locked up. It makes a hellacious noise, even with one tooth missing. Something I will never ever forget.
