Stupid Detent Cable!

Its supposed to be adjustable...right? and I have read the tech article and it still continues to baffle me and I am starting to get frustrated with it. It seems really really easy but I guess I am just missing it. The last thing I want is to screw up my transmission.

so........when I put the carb manifold on, the TBI was sitting farther back on the manifold causing the detent cable to be loose. At the time I couldn't figure out how to adjust it (i did look at the tech article) so I just pulled the cable tight and put one of those cable stopper things on the end of it. This was in May and the car ran great shifted fine and didn't shake the crap out of you until now.

now, time took its toll and the cable stopper I put on and the cable slid a bit so the car has been running like crap on the highway. In third gear from 1000-1500 rpms the car shakes a whole bunch but then at 2000rpm (70mph) shes fine. Normal driving on the street its shifting at 2000 under normal throttle. I fiddled with the cable and the stopper some more than it started shifting at 2500 under normal throttle. I dont think this is a good idea for the transmission. On the highway from 1000-1500 its really really rough.

I can manage to put headers and a intake manifold on but this cable is really bothering me........any sugeestions or words of wisdom. I hope its nothing more than just this cable

Thanks
Jason

to really check it right, you can drop the pan. Have somebody hodl the pedal down all the way and adjust the cable to where on your valve body, the lever is completely flush with the soloniod(whatever you call it) that it goes to. if this is all correct, then something else is the problem.
