Wont Go Over 85!!!!

I have the 3.1l v6 with the 700r4 tranny, it will haul *** up to 85, then it wont accel any more, but the rpms stick at around 23-3000 rpms at 85mph.... I know it can do more, some people has suggested it's the tranny, if so what should I do, rebuild??? or get one out of a junkyard.... One thing I was thinking about was going to a junkyard buy one and rebuild it myself with a transGo shiftkit and then paying shop to put it in for me, will that be my best bet???? Also who hard would it be to install a transGo Shiftkit???

If the RPM's are stable then it's not the tranny. Also the low RPM at 85 says it's not the tranny. Trans-go shift kit is a MAJOR PITA to put in.

I don't have any experience with the Transgo kits, but I have done five cars with B&M kits and found they were very easy and straigthforward to install. The provided instructions are very good. It is a messy job, and you will end up with trans fluid in your hair and all over you, unless you happen to be able to use a lift, but skill level wise it isn't that hard in my opinion.

Sounds to me like your problem is computer related, probably a top speed limiter, which GM uses based on the stock speed rating of the tires. This is a good idea, unless you've switched the tires for a higher speed rating. You can overcome the top speed limiter with a Hypertech Power Programmer.

You can't use the Hypertech Power Programmer to change anything on the computer of your 3.1l V6.

Factory stock your speed limiter is set to 115/112 MPH. If you changed to different tires (smaller diameter), different rear gears (higher ratio), or your VSS isn't reading correctly then the speed limiter can be affecting your top end limiter.
