Took apart 700R4.. Name these parts?
First thing out was the pump.. I saw the vanes and i checked the surface for wear and it was flat...
the next thing out was held in by a pin and a sprag i beleive, it contained some clutches and snap rings..
what is that part called?
I see the "sunshell" at the rear of the transmission around another part.. whats that part called?
I cant get to the snap ring on it right now, im going to get some different snap ring pliers....
So far ive seen 3 sets of clutches, 1 of which look very different from the other 2.. And Im told there is 1 more set of clutches (4 total) in the last piece thats holding the sunshell in place.
Ive removed a band also, i beleive the input sprag? its called?
Name some of these parts for me, Im not quite sure whats what.

The part that comes out after the pump is the input shaft, connected to the reverse and input clutch assemblies. After that the 2-4 band, which is held in the case by an anchor pin. After that is the input sun and planetary gearset.
Inside the sunshell is the input planetary assembly.
There are actually 5 sets of clutches, if you count the overrun setup.
The band is the 2-4 band. A sprag is a one way roller clutch.
I agree with Pro-Built. Pick up a book. I use the Haynes techbook for GM automatics. It is a great resource. There are a lot of parts in there, and it's easy to get confused.

The ATSG is about the best book I've seen for the 700. I've rebuilt a few of them, and many more 4L60E's, and the ATSG books have been very helpful. Some of their other books aren't as good though (such as import applications).
If you get a book, and still have questions, it may be better for you to include a picture, because it seems you're calling a band a sprag, therefore, instead of guessing what something is called, a picture will clarify it for everyone!
Good luck!

I know the name of almost every 700 part. I have built probably around a couple thousand. I need to see what you are talking about because your description is a little confusing. I will give you a name for wahtever you need.
