Clutch Options Please ???
Hi Guys,
I have had my 86 TransAm for about 4 years, now, and the clutch is tired to say the least! I will be putting in a 350 I'm currently building and would like to 'Beef' up the clutch if possible. The guy I bought the car off said something about ithe clutch not being original or something but I wont know 'till I rip it out.
Can anyone recommend the way to go for a good strong clutch setup that fits? Any help here would be most appreciated and some links would be great as I live in New Zealand and can only shop via the Web.
Thanks all... Kind regards...
Geoff

The 10.75" 85 Corvette clutch works well; just need special small-headed bolts. Verify the spline count and you're good to go.

Simplest thing to do is just buy a better clutch in the same size that fits the car.
I doubt the clutch that's in there is any different size or anything like that, from the original. He probably put some other brand besides a GM one in it, is all he did.
I've been running a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch in mine for years now, seems to work quite well. One held up for many many hard miles behind a 400 in my car, so I'm sure it will handle a little motor like a 350.

Thanks for that.... Yes I guess you're right. Anyone had any opinions on the RAM Power Grip clutches? Thanks....

A few people have posted that they didn't like the RAM on other threads. Can't say personally, but you may want to check out what they had to say on other clutch related threads.
I love my SPEC Stage III. A STage II would be better for a stock car though.
Are their any high performance Holden parts sources there? See if the stuff interchanges, because importing stuff from the US is expensive, or so I've heard.

Thanks TKO,
That's certainly worth a thought but I have learnt in the past that genuine US made parts are usually far superior and cheaper in the long run. I'm currently communicating with another member of this forum for a plate and disk.
Appreciate all the help from you guys and have a great New Year all.... Kind regards...
