2.73-3.42's/drum-disc

I was wanting to throw out my highway gears and get some 3.42's, but i figure i am going to want disc brakes in the rear in the near future.. so i was thinking about just replacing my 10 bolt for a 4th gen with the 3.42 gears/posi/disc brakes already together. The question is.. which is the best year to go with. I have heard some about this year or that year haveing better brand parts or stronger, etc. Just wanted some input about what to look for and which years these were. Thanks!

Shaun,

Why not replace that ten-bolt with a nine-bolt? Put PBR calps on the 9. As far as using a 4th gen axle, do a search. That subject has been hammered numerous times.
