The only kind of rear that will fit directly in is one out of one of these cars.

You find them at junkyrads and swap meets.

Why do you think your "pinion is grinding"?

Actually, I heard a ford 9" is a direct bolt in, but I really don't know if they came off any vehicle besides the old ones, but you'd probably spend quite a bit for those. Also, yea you can use any thirdgen rear but try to get a 90+ rear, it will have the 28 splines. You can also use a fourth gen rear but if you use your stock tires they will stick out two inches, but you can buy 2 adaptors for the front tires and just run fourth gen rims all the way around.

A F*rd 9" is NOT a direct bolt-in, unless you buy one specifically made to do that. No vehicle that those ever cam in was equipped with a torque arm like our cars have. You're not going to find any such thing in the junkyard, you can be certain of that.

The 4th gen is the next closest thing to a direct bolt-in, as he mentioned. But you have to use 4th gen wheel sto avoid creating the stooopid silly r”cer skateboard effect.
