The slp posi is a 3 series carrier out of 4th gens. It is for 28 spline axles that came in some 89 cars and later. If you have an 89 or earlier car you have 26 spline. If you have an 90+ model you have 28 spline. The 89's were split between 26 and 28. You can find this posi at www.slponline.com

If you have a 9-bolt you can't use a posi for a 10-bolt anyway, so it doesn't matter how many splines it has.

No there is no other way to tell what splines you have. IF your car is a 90-92, and IF you are absolutely certain that the rear is original, then there's a near 100% probablility it has 28-spline axles, and the SLP unit will fit. If you have a 89, there's about a 20% probability that it came with 28-spline axles. If your rear is 88-back, then there's virtually 100% probability it DOES NOT have 26-spline axles unless somebody has put them there; in which case you CANNOT use the SPL unit unless you get 90-92 axles.

This should be a sticky. This question gets asked an awful lot.

so then my rear wouldn't be a 9 bolt then correct?

i have an 89 so i guess i'll have to find out when i take it apart. now since i have a 2 series carier for my 3.42 gears to work all i need is the ring spacer right?

I don't know. It's so dark in your driveway right now I can't see it. Besides, the monitor is too far away.

Go count the bolts.
