I'm not sure of the exact differences other than the fact that the later model 700R4 were built with better parts. Sorry I couldn't be more specific. Maybe some of the tranny guys like Dana can elaborate.

One other thing... When I changed my transmission from an '85 to a later model 700R4 that I got from Pro-built I had to change one of the components(some type of silenoid) for the Torque convertor lockup. It worked opposite of the later models. One was normally open and the other was normally closed.

Dr. Suess: Yes, Firebird and Camaro are basically same cars, same engines, transmissions, rears, suspensions, etc. Only front fenders, hood, bumpers and some details make the difference

1892 - 1986 are the early type with the 27 spline input shaft being changed to a 30 spline in mid 1984. In 1987 it (it still used the early 82 - 86 valve body) was the first major upgrade, forward accumulator, bigger input & rear sprag assemblies, etc. In 1988 & up the units used the late style valve body. They stayed this way till the 4L60E.

1892-1986?

I thought it was 82 - 84 1/2?

Any hoo, are the 200R4 and 700R4 27 spline converters swappable?
