2nd gen 8.5" swap tech info required

Im looking to swap in a 2nd gen rear as a cheaper alternative to a Moser 12bolt/9". let me know if I have all the technical info I would need to swap it into a 3rdgen. Here is what I think need to have done to the 2nd gen rear to work

add spring perches from 3rdgen rear
add LCA mounts
add panhard bar mounts
add torque arm mounts

I measured up a 2ndgen and it's 61" approx, and a 3rdgen rear is 58.625" plus I run 1/8" spacer on each side, as per the 16" irocs I have. So really the width difference is 1.0625" on each side. I also have a 3rdgen rear (beside the one in my car) that I can use for bits and as a guide to make things easier.

Im only interested in the technical portion not the cost as I am going to talk with my welder/car builder about that to gauge it, I just need to know if this is the right info to bring to him.

Thanks

I can't give you any technical info, but I wish on good luck on your your venture. The 8.5" is a damn good rearend that can take some serious beatings.

There is an outfit in Canada, that makes 8.5's for our 3rd gens so thats where I would start. Even if your not buying one from them, I'm wondering if they can help you get started with your project.
Maybe you can bumb a Jig from them . Who knows maybe you can get a bear assembly for a reasonable price, and than weight the cost vs time factor and consider weather the price is just.

jig would be easy to build around the factory rear. really shouldn't be that hard to do, just take soem time to make a jig and swap the parts over.

I'd start by looking at the GNX torque arm bolting to the rear cover for starters. I'd feel better with that than welding to cast iron.

The rest (steel to steel welding) should be cake.
