7 5/8" carrier

i have an 84 camaro with a non posi rear end. its the 7.5" but i was wondering if a carrier out of a 97 z28 would fit if i got 28 spline axles and a ring and pinion to fit it?

i'm guessing the rear end would be good into the 12s since the new LS1 cars are running the same rear with those times.

Yes, the 7.5" and 7.625" carriers interchange, just need matching axle splines / side gears as you said.

The rear end is the weak point of the drivetrain in the 4th gen f-bodies. Traction will cause them to break. If it's your "baby" save up for a 12 bolt. If you're on more "budget" than "gotta" then consider a 9 bolt.

if its as strong as the 10 bolt in the '97 z28 before it was wrecked i'l be happy. that thing had a 6 speed and was a lot faster than a stock lt1(it would beat SS's). it had good dunlop sp sport 5000s and that thing would hook up good exept for the massive wheel hop. you could pop the clutch from a stop and the car would shake like hell from the wheel hop for about 2 seconds then hook up good. if that didn't break it i seriously doubt a 350hp 350 would break it.
