700R-4 to T-5 question

im considering swapping a T-5 in place of my beat 700R-4, and had a few questions...

first of all my 700R-4 has been slipping sorta bad for a while now, and i've tried to nurse it as long as i can but its starting to get worse, and is now starting to make whining noise(i dont knwo why, fluid is clean and up to correct level..)... i dont have the ,money to buy a new tranny; dont really want to put a used one in ( because i'd risk having the same problem and dont exactly have the 100-200 bucks to get one...), and dont have the close to 300 bucks to rebuild the one i currently have... so what i was thinking is i'll swap in the T-5 i have at my house...

the tranny's(T-5) out of a 2.8 V6 firebird, the things i dont know about are:
1.) will the bell housing/flywheel work with the 305 in my car?
2.) will the drive shaft match up in length, or will i need to swap that from the V6 donor car also?
3.) and how much work am i looking at here? is it gonna be similar to dropping the auto and putting in the stick??
( i already have my console and carpet out of the car)
also what about the clutch pedal...how much work???

any help would be GREATLY appreciated; i dont know how much longer my 700R-4's gonna last-its got over 140K on it

You will need a V8 bellhousing and a 305 flywheel. Not sure bout the driveshaft. I think the hardest thing will be putting in the clutch pedal.

The V6 bellhousing won't fit a 305.

The driveshaft is the same.

The V6 transmission has a different input shaft so the V8 clutch won't work (one guy here about a year ago had a special clutch disk made that had the V8 disk and V6 splines).

The V6 transmission has different gear ratios, and weaker internals.

You're looking at a lot of work, and probably as much money as getting your tranny fixed.

You will have to use the V6 clutch disc. If you just have a stock or mildy built 305 it wont be a problem. I am going to be using a V6 clutch with my 300hp 350. Your T5 will be able to handle a 305. Unless of course you realy beat the crap out of it.
I paid $100 for my bellhousing, $75 for my flywheel, and $45 for my pressure plate and clutch. If you prefer to drive stick, then put the T5 in. If you dont realy care, get your auto fixed.

helpful info!

thanks for the info guys, i think after loooking at the cost of the bellhousing, clucth, flywheel, etc...

i'll just take the time to save up the moeny and rebuild my auto and maybe get a nice stall converter(for the motor taht'll be installed in the fall: +/-350horse)

thanks alot for the suggestions/help!!
