Mustang 3.08 gear??

I have a 2.73 rear end in my 90 Iroc vert and I am looking to upgrade. The car needs some guts. I am trying to decide between buying a new 3.42 gear or installing a free 3.08 gear out of a 92(?) mustang cobra. Will the mustang gear even fit?? I don't know anything about rear ends.

Also, what is a reasonable price for changing a rear end??

Thanks

The Mustang gear will not work. You can get a T5 3.08 gear for next to nothing out of a yard.

you lack of knowledge shows but there's no harm in asking an honest question. ford parts won't work in a gm.

We were always taught that there is no such thing as a stupid question, right??

Whis a good gear option?? I Have a 2.73 now and the car is a dog. There is an 88 T/A with supposedly the same setup Engine/trans/rear end and it smokes the IROC. I can't find anything that makes the Iroc a dog and the car has been in the family since day one. So I figure a new rear end would do the trick. I still want the car to be driveable, I don't really want to race, just be able to have some more fun when I am driving around. I figure a 3.73 would be too much so I thought the 3.42 would be a good option.

Any thoughts??

You cannot go wrong with a 3.42. It is the perfect street gear for any application in my opinion. Try doing a couple of searches and read up on everyones choice.

One big thing to make sure of is if you have the 9 bolt rear or the 10 bolt rear.
9 bolts are almost impossible to get aftermarket or factory replacment parts for.
10 bolts there is a wide assortment from many different companies and vendors.

If you are going to do a gear swap, I'd suggest a 3.23 or a 3.42 set. They will be much more fun than 2.73 or 3.08 gears, but still keep the rpms resonably low for easy driving.
