2nd gear all ****ed up

Car: 1987 iroc z
Engine: 305
2nd gear all ****ed up
auto tranny. 1k miles on it. stall converter and shift kit. so i go to the track and i manual shift it. i get into drive and stays in 2nd and just keeps goin. i let off the pedal a little bit and it shift to 3rd. i mat it again and it down shift and is reving at 65. whats wrong with it. can i fix it easily? adjustments? vaccum lines?
