ok, my rear end went out on my firebird. i have a 3.42 drum, open rear sitting in my garage. my broken one in the car is a 2.73 open with drums. how much of a pain in the butt will it be switching these? both are 10 bolts, both have drum brakes. will the brake lines be a problem? what about the drive shaft? in what order do i unbolt the rear suspension?
help me out guys!

 

Well dropping the rear end out of there isn't bad at all, I just did that last week, took me about an hour and a half. You may have problems with rusted bolts, just be sure to use some PB Blaster or something of the like, let them sit, then try them again.

As for brakes, and putting it back in.. I'm not to that part yet, but I imagine you would probably be best off using the brake lines you have on there now, and the best pads/brake cylinders/drums, etc out of the 2. I would stick with the brake lines you have now because atleast you know their good, and don't have crap in them.

Seems pretty self expanitory, everything comes apart easily and simply and would likely go together the same way.

 

other than dealing with a heavy part it isn't bad at all to swap rears.
