finding out the rear end gear ratio

well my speedo doesnt work and i dont have a tag on my pumpkin. so what i did was mark the DS with chalk and the wheel with chalk. i turned the DS about 3 1/4 times to one turn of the wheel. 3.23's? the rear is out of a 1988 GTA. wtf, i was thinking this rear had 2.77's cuz the car is so damn slow!

carbed L98, T-5 with this rear and i can't even chirp second if i tried!!!

Take off the cover and look... it's the only way to get it right for sure.

I just picked up a rearend and thats pretty much what I did. Later though I cleaned up the tag and it said 3.23 on it anyways.

yeah i thought about that too. but i really want 3.73's, and those are harder to find. plus, i hate drum brakes, and i believe that the 3.73's mainly came with them. ALSO the rear i have now has posi. i must have posi!

sometimes its stamped on the forward part of the axel on the passangers side. it won't be the ratio itself, but some numbers. take the numbers and look them up in a chiltons or hayens or online.
