Transmission just went out

Well, i was just leaving from work and when i pulled out onto the main road i noticed that it wasnt shifting out of first gear. Well i went on and stopped at a gas station, pulled the dipstick out and it had metal particles all over it. I just had the tranny rebuilt a year ago and my warranty just ran out 9 days ago! Anyway i was just wondering what could cause this? After they rebuilt it they told me that the tranny is out of a 1985 caprice, could this be why?

If you have 1st gear only, and this happened all at once, then most likely the governor gear is stripped or broken (common).

So this basically calls for a complete rebuild again right?

I wish it were only that easy, but mine went completely out, the only gear that i have is first.
