general 9 bolt questions

i just got a 9 bolt rear end and i was wondering a few things about it:

it's out of a 1988 Iroc with a L98/700r4. according to the tech data here, it should probably be a borg warner 2.77 rear. it's a posi disc brake rear. i know it's either 2.77 or 2.73.

First, i was wondering if there is another way to tell if it's a bw rear without the numbers on the axle tube. they aren't readable.

Second, I have 3.42 gears in my stock 10 bolt in the Iroc now. I would like to get either 3.42 or probably 3.45's for the 9-bolt. will i have to get a different carrier also? i was thinking that up to 3.08 had a 2-series posi carrier and above 3.08 would be a 3-series posi.

the last thing would be where to get parts. i don't know where to go to get 3.45's and other parts for the 9 bolt. i've seen some stuff about 9-bolt.com. i would assume that they'd have a website too, but i cannot get to it. is there a different site or some other way to get ahold of them go look into how much parts are going to cost?

i tried searching, but gave up after reading through 4 pages of posts without finding a definitive answer to my questions....

thanks guys

i think you read too much and mixed data for 10 bolts and 9 bolts together. if you have a 9 bolt it is a BW rear.
2:73 is a 10 bolt ratio. don't think there is any series to the 9 bolts, only applies to 10s. not sure on parts, randys would be a good start. might try google search.

There are 2-series and 3-series carriers for the 9-bolt; they break at the same point as the 10-bolt (3.08 and lower are 2-series).

Randy's www.ringpinion.com is one place that has a few parts, another that has a few is http://www.drivetrainspecialists.com...=29&cat=GM+8.2 but ignore the 8.2 on the page, as you can see the parts are all 7.75".

If you paid money for a 2.77 9-bolt, you screwed up. You should have taken the cover off and looked before opening your wallet.

I don't think Miles is doing the 9bolt.com thing any more; seems like alot of people ran their mouth about how they wanted parts, but when it came time to show the color of their money, they kind of lost interest. I think he found it wasn't worth his trouble.

It should be either a 2.77 or 3.27. (With G92 = 3.27)

The gear ratio is on the tag that is located at 9 o'clock on the pumpkin cover. Get a wire brush and clean the tag you'll probably be able to read it. If the tag is not there, it could be a suprise package!
