9" converter too much??
Hey guys, I think I am going to buy a tranny from my friend. It is a 700R4, and the internals are built (not sure on the specifics, but I will find out before I fork over the money) it also has Transgo shift kit in it. It comes with a 9" converter, not sure on the exact stall speed...but...
I know motors with different amounts of power will stall the converter at different RPM's. For example my 300hp motor might only stall it at 2800rpm, where as if I had 450hp... it might stall at 3500rpm.
Will the 9" converter be too much ???

PS- I have 2.73 posi, and I beleive it is a lockup converter. But I will have to double check on that.

A 9" is a good but what you really need to figure out is what brand and stall, thats what really matters. There really isn't such a thing as a 9" being too much. The smaller the converter the better to a point. 9" are much better then 12" converters (which come stock), they put less shock on the drivetrain and have less rotating mass.
