'84 700r4, 27 or 30 spline??

Axle/Gears: 3.73 12 bolt
'84 700r4, 27 or 30 spline??
I want to get a TC for my 84, but i don't know if it is a 27 or 30 spline input. I want to avoid openning it up twice if i can help it. Does anyone know if they put more 27s or 30s in the'84s, or how to tell te difference externally. Hell, if you have one yourself, what is the spline count on yours? Sorry for all the questions, but i have not found ANY answers yet.

The middle of 1984 they went to the 30 spline. There is a code on the side of the transmission on the passenger side. You will have to find in GM literature when the change occured.

a 700R4 core that I got from u-wrench-it back in 2000 was from a 1984 Impala. It was a 30-spline... No way to know/guess for sure on yours without checking.
