Question about 700 transmission.
I was at the mechanic today and said something that I had never heard before, he said my transmission was just a straight 700 not a 700R4. I did not know that there was a difference like that or that they were 2 different transmissions and I can't find anything about it online. Is he correct or is he full of it?
Thanks everyone.

If your car is a 82, and has the original transmission in it, it's a 200-C (C is for "clutch", the lockup one); not a regular 200, not a 200-4R. It's not any kind of 700. There's no other kind of 700 besides the 700-R4; they changed its name later to the 4L60, and then the electronically shifted version is the 4L60E, but there's only one kind of "700".

Thanks RB83L69. You are right the car had a 200c but just got it switched for a 700r4. But the speedometer was reading about 12 or 15 mph above the actual speed so I needed to change my speedo gears. I took the car to a mechanic this morning and said that my tranny was not a 700r4 it was a 700 I told him I had never heard of that before that a 700 is the same than a 700r4. But he got me wondering that's why I decided to ask in here.
Thanks again for the info.

If I swapped my 200c to a 700r4. Do I really need to change my speedometer gear ration. Or do I use the same I had on the 200c. I'm keeping the same rear end which has a ration of 2.73 and the tires are 215 65R15.
Thanks to everyone in advance.

The speedometer gears are in the transmission. Whatever transmission you put in will probably have the gears for whatever gear and tire combination were on th evehicle it came out of, unless you change them.
