700R4 wont shift 3/4 at full power--HELP!
Need some help. I don't know enough about trannys to even be "dangerous". Have tried to read posts/searches, but can't seem to find answer (at least, that I can understand--AT LEAST I'M WILLING TO ADMIT IT!!!)
Tranny had already been done and in car when I purchased it, so I can't give a whole lot of good info on what has been done to it. The only thing I can tell U is that according to receipts, it has a vette servo. It is a manual down shift and upshift, 1/2, 2/3,--3/4 up or down is not. It has an ATI (#708220) non lockup converter.
Problem is, under full power it will not shift 3/4. I have taken it up to 6200 (which is higher than I want to shift) and it won't shift. If I slightly back off of gas it will shift. A couple times, I have done this and then given it full throttle again, and it down shifted back to third and winged the motor up to 6700/6800--NOT COOL!!!
Can anybody help me understand what is going on and how to correct it?
THANKS,
Craig

there is part throttle detent passage in the tv plunger that doesnt allow this to happen.some transmissions have this plunger ,but most dont.you must install a plunger with no part throttle detent passage .it installs in 5 minutes with the pan off.if you need one get in touch with us .see url below.

Sorry I haven't got back to this sooner--been covered up at work--O/T--the whole thing!
Couple quick questions:
Will this part/modification make the tranny shift automatically or would it be a manual shift? Will this eliminate 4/3 downshift? (cool with me)? not that it matters--just be glad if it shifts 3/4 at WOT. I am used to shifting it manually and would actually prefer manual upshift and down shift.
U said "it installs in 5 minutes with the pan off." --Need to drop valve body or just pan?
Need to readjust TV cable? and would it effect any other operations of the tranny as it is now?
Any long term good/bad "side effects"?
I guess I could get all these questions answered if I contact U like U said--would it be better to phone or to e-mail? Who do I ask for and what do I ask for?
It is VERY obvious the from reading many many posts in researching this issue, that U know what you are talking about, so will be looking forward to communicating with U and "picking your brain"!
One other question--when I first got the car (tranny had already been done)--the cooling lines did NOT go through the radiator internal cooler and only went through a small cooler mounted on front side of a/c condenser (I think that is what it is called--sorry if I am calling it the wrong thing!). The tranny would not always make the 2/3 shift when I shifted it. It seemed to not shift when it was warm/hot and would shift, when I told it too when it was cooler. Since then I have rerouted the cooling lines so they go through the internal cooler in the aftermarket aluminum radiator and then through a much much larger Perma Cool cooler mounted in the same location as the original small cooler. The problem seems to have gone away, but I was wondering what or why this was happening? Was the fluid just plain getting too hot to achieve enough hydraulic pressure for it to operate correctly or was there something else going on that I should be concerned about?
