87 rear

OK folks heres my deal. A found a posi rear out of an 87 iroc. The guy wants 150 for it...does that sound like a good price...60000 miles on thr car. I dont know too much about rear ends but i know the one in my car is supposed to suck. Anything else i should know before attemtping the swap? Thanx all.

Called them lately?

That piece unfortunately seems to now belong in the "You snooze, you lose" category.

There were some seriously crappy rears in 87 IROCs. Remember, some of them (most of them maybe, I don't know) were LG4/auto cars, with 2.73 gears. In any case they're also 26-spline carriers, if it's a 10-bolt at all.

Your 91 car should have a 28-spline carrier and axles.

You need to find out exactly what it is. It may be utterly worthless, or it might be a good way to go. No way to know for sure from the info you've given.

definately look for something with 28 spline axles. A decent way to go (assuming you want to stay with a 10 bolt) is to find a v6 rearend, either keep the good gear ratio, and change it, and add a posi to it. Anything with 26 splines probably isnt worth it. Of course, you could take the axles from a v6 car at the junkyard, but they usually charge the full price if you only take the 2 axles or the whole housing.
