Since I'll be heading to a lower altitude for some racing next weekend, I thought I'd better beef up the rear a little. I ordered a diff support cover from Summit earlier this week, it arrived and I installed it today before heading to the track.

I've been running 14.0's to 14.1's lately. My first time trial it ran a 13.95 - the quickest time slip this year! The air wasn't that great, and I didn't have a tail wind. But the 60' was one of the better all year.

It did cool down in the evening after a rain cloud moved through, but humidity went up, too, so it didn't equal that. Until the 5th round, when I dialed a 13.99, scrubbed 4 mph, and broke out with a 13.899!

I did put new gear lube in when I filled it back up (it was fresh back in April), and added one psi (on a whim) to the Hoosier Quicktime Pro DOTs. That last run the 60' was a good 3 hundredths better than what it's been cutting in the past few weeks.

Granted, this is an 8.2" 10-bolt rather than a 7.5" of our 3rd gens, but I was amazed at the results. The only differences were the cover and tire pressure (I didn't have enough TT's to play with the tire pressure to see if that was having any effect).

Unless I'm totally whacky about the cover making a difference...

I thought it might have something to do with keeping the carrier where it belongs and keeping the gears operating efficiently, but perhaps it is just a shiny thing...

Or, maybe I just needed more pressure in the tires all this time.

it might have helped keep the gears located better which would account for more effecient gear mesh, but until there's proof.....where can you buy a chrome shift **** from? :lala:
