how much can a t-5 handle?

how much can a t-5 handle?

ok so i am wondering just how much a t-5 can handle. i am planning on just a little hop up on my 305tbi.

people say not much, people say a lot, im maiking just over 300hp or so, mines fine, dont power shift it.

like nsimmons said, they hang in there, so long as you don't beat on them too much. My 305 is hovering around 240 ftlbs, and with 120k on the clock I'm just now sarting to detect some bearing noise. A decently equipped 377 will be under my hood by Oct. though. That will be the real test!

Your T5 should be okay begind your 305 TBI. Powershifting, clutch drops and slicks kills these trannies.

strong t5?

Davieboy ur gonna rip tht tranny apart wtha 377...ud hve to take it super easy.. go wtha t56...theyre a lot stronger, ths guy harris from racersden is puttin 450hp at the wheels and his tranny is fine

There is a company in PA that makes a set of gears for the t5 that they claim will handle like 500 ft lbs.

Oh yeah, i'm counting on it. I'll probobally save my pennies for a TKO rather than a used t56

Check out the link from my last post. It is stronger than a TKO and it is cheaper. The TKO is only good for slightly more tourqe than the T5 so it is not that much of an upgrade. By the way I know someone that has been road racing with a T5 and a 377 for many years and has only had problems with 5th gear. This is certainly not the same abuse as a drag launch, but it shows that in street use the tranny will hold up.

the tremec is rated for 500ftlbs? Thats not much of an upgrade over the t5?

the TKO is rated for 500 ft pounds...the GM WC T-5 is rated for 330 ft pounds...the G-force T-5 is rated 600 ft pounds..i have experiance with these trannie and i can tell you FIRST hand they WILL hold up behind OVER 700 HP
