I have become spoiled by my newer cars and take their automatic headlight shutoff for granted. at least once a year i forget and leave my headlights on and return to a dead battery. has anyone attempted or documented adding this feature or something similar to their 3rd gen? not the dead battery feature, the headlights turning off when the car is turned off feature.
tldr: left my lights on and my battery died, so i had to drive the jeep into work today and I'm whining about it.

Haven't seen it, but knowing how those systems work it'd be a fairly simple (but totally custom) install. You'd need the light sensor for the dash, headlight switch, and the associated pigtails. Then it's just a matter of wiring things up.
You probably wouldn't have a push-pull style switch when it's all said and done though.
It'd be pretty simple to leave the stock switch in there and just add the other in parallel with it... as in, the HLs and TLs are turned on if EITHER the switch is pulled, OR the "module" calls for them to be on.
Pretty simple if you know a little EE and C programming. An ESP32 and a few transistors you're in business. I might actually see about doing this myself once I'm done with my interior lighting control.
I took a step further and put in a custom switch from Rocker Switch Pros thst will deactivate the automatic module if I don't want the headlights on. Also put in an indicator light that illumates when the headlights turn on.
just put a relay in for the main power for the headlights. the activation for the relay be connected to the "on" position of the ignition switch. then the headlights will be on and off with the ignition
