I'm considering getting into open road racing, and the other day someone suggested trans and differential coolers. But is a trans cooler really necessary with a manual trans? I can't see any real benefit from it, besides the fact you would need a standalone pump for it.

be hard to do with out a pump, not to mention the lack of inlet and outlet ports.

Depends on how hot the fluid actually gets, under that type of use. Before jumping to conclusions about whether it's "worth it" or not, I'd measure the trans temp, under conditions as close as possible to actual use.

I suspect you'd find that if you run the car flat out at max speed for any length of time, you'd want a trans fluid cooler and a rear end fluid cooler.

It would be pretty simple to put hose nipples in the drain & fill plugs, and use a small electric pump of some sort, to move the fluid. Draw it out of the drain and return it to the fill.

The NASCAR guys use a rear end fluid pump that driven by a pulley bolted to the drive shaft yoke flange.

whoa, interesting. Thanks for the link.

*Edit* Hmm....gmpartsdirect has the full kit for $818. I would think I could put together my own system for much less than that.
