Shift kit???
Well I am putting a 350 in my car real soon to replace my 305. The mechanic stated that I should put a shift kit on my 700R4. I asked him what it does. He said that it makes the shifts firmer. I don't quite understand what he means. Any advice on this? What does it do? is it worth it? Which would you recomend?

Recommend a Transgo shift kit from Pro-built, comes with corvette servo, etc. Do a search here you'll find all kinds of info.

I got the B&M kit, but from what I hear the transgo is a better kit.
The shift kit will make the tranny shift faster (not sooner) by applying the clutches with more psi and volume. This takes away the tranny's stock slushy shift and gives a firm or hard shift into the next gear. With a moderate amount of power, it will scratch the tires from 1 to 2 (when I got my 3:73 installed with the posi, I could get a good chirp out of both tires from 1st to 2nd with a stock LG-4).

Trans Go i think is around 100 bucks. I had my TH-400 rebuilt for 800 bucks with a Trans Go shift kit and extra clutches.

If you're on a budget, consider the transgo jr (heavy duty) from Pro-built, comes with corvette servo for less than 100. Check their website.

I've owned both the B&M and Transgo kits.
By far I like the Transgo a lot more. The B&M has a very harsh 1/2 shift due to a spacer that's installed... it always shifts harsh even at part throttle. I was always chirping the tires or breaking them loose in the rain (not fun in the middle of turns).
I still had a 2nd to 3rd gear flare up problem with the B&M (the trans would shift and jump up acouple 100 rpms between gears before going into 3rd).
The Transgo kit comes with more parts (reason why it's more expensive). The Transgo kit offers a nice shift, until moderate throttle then it firms up a lot. The Transgo comes with larger boost valve (more pressure), I don't think the B&M has that. Also the kit includes the corvette servo.
Overall in my opinion it's just a better kit.
As for Pro-Built their awesome to work with. Give them a call and they should beable to tell you all about the transgo kit.
